Barry Hafkin, MD

Barry Hafkin received his MD degree at the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio, Texas. After post graduate training in Internal Medicine, he completed a post doctoral fellowship in Virology and Infectious Diseases at Stanford University and worked at the US Centers for Disease Control in Acute Infectious Disease Epidemiology as an EIS officer. As a young physician he taught and practiced Infectious Disease in a teaching hospital in Austin, Texas associated with University of Texas medical schools. He was recruited to the UpJohn-Pharmacia Pharmaceutical Company in Kalamazoo Michigan to lead the development program of the first novel antibiotic developed in the United States in more than 30 years (Zyvox). Was named the Global Director for Anti-infective Development subsequently; and, remained in that position until the decision was made to halt development of additional anti-infective drugs at Pharmacia. Dr. Hafkin has been active in the senior management of 3 North American Biotech Companies over the past 10 years and has served as the Chief Medical Officer of Affinium Pharmaceuticals since 2007.

Owen Roberts

Owen G. Roberts, CFA is the Chief Financial Officer and a founding executive of Affinium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. In 1998 he helped create Borealis Biosciences, one of two companies which would merge to form Affinium in 2000. In his capacity as head of Affinium's financial operations, Mr. Roberts has raised over US$55 million of international private equity, over US$15MM in secured and convertible debt, negotiated in-licensing, asset purchases and collaboration agreements with global pharmaceutical companies, and in 2007 lead the company's current US$18MM Series A financing. Prior to joining Affinium, Mr. Roberts spent over 10 years as a corporate finance executive with major US financial institutions where he led the structuring of debt for major North American clients. A graduate of McGill University, Mr. Roberts is also a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Nachum Kaplan, PhD

Dr. Nachum Kaplan received his PhD in Microbiology from Tel Aviv University, Israel. He conducted his post-doctoral studies in microbial molecular biology and genetics at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California and the Agouron Institute in La Jolla, California. In 1989, Dr. Kaplan assumed an academic position at Tel Aviv University as a faculty member in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Biotechnology. In 1994, Dr. Kaplan moved into industry where he was engaged in the development of novel bacterial diagnostic systems and the identification of novel drug targets. In 2002, Dr. Kaplan joined Affinium Pharmaceuticals in Toronto, Canada where he has held various research leadership positions in the discovery and development of novel antibacterials. Dr. Kaplan is a member of Affinium's senior management team as Vice President Microbiology.

Leisa Dennehy

Leisa Dennehy holds undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Medical Technology and a minor in Microbiology from Miami University (cum laude in the honors program), an MBA from Duke's Fuqua School of Business (summa cum laude), and a certificate in Organizational Development from University of North Carolina, Charlotte. After scientific training and initial work in clinical laboratory science early in her career, Leisa parlayed a love of medicine and a passion for building ideas and strategy into the pharmaceutical field. For more than 20 years, Leisa has held commercial roles with both major multinational organizations such as Procter & Gamble and Glaxo/GlaxoWelcome as well as biotech companies such as IntraBiotics, Peninsula and Protez Pharmaceuticals. Since 2008 Leisa heads the commercial and corporate development efforts at Affinium and brings significant experience in pharmaceutical sales, marketing, market development and business development.
